My life is going fine. I'm currently getting all my stuff together for my grad school applications. I'm still working at BK and actually going to become a crew trainer.

I saw Jarhead this past Wednesday. Not a movie for kids or people offended by cussing/violence. I am also currently ordering Stargate Atlantis season 1 from DeepDiscountDVD. SGA is my new pretty shiny.

And ooh! Serenity is coming out on DVD before Christmas. Just before Christmas, Dec 20 to be exact. I saw it twice in the theater and I loved my Big Damn Movie. I'm sad it didn't do better. Maybe it will do better when it's released on DVD. Maybe Joss should just release the next movie straight to DVD.

Saw Batman Begins yesterday. So much love. Christian Bale rocks as Batman and as Bruce Wayne, playboy billionaire. It's much better than Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. It's not campy at all. If you're a big fan of the comics, you might no like it. They fudge with the timeline with Ra's al Ghul (sp?) but somehow it works. They had to find villains for this movie that hadn't been done. Liam Neeson kicks ass too.

Also found out today that Sci-Fi picked up Firefly and they plan on running all the episodes including the ones never aired in the U.S. before and in the correct order. So if you haven't yet seen the show and don't want to spend money renting it, watch it on Sci-Fi.

Recently saw the first season of Dark Angel. The library had it. I kinda enjoyed it. Michael Weatherly is hot as always and Jessica Alba kicked ass. I haven't been able to get my hands on season 2 though.

I'm trying to get my mom to go see Batman Begins with me next week. Yes, it is worth seeing again. She wants to see War of the Worlds too. I'm not sure when that comes out.

Ooh, I finally saw Episode III. My power went out Thursday and it was 90 outside. I took myself to the theater and saw the longest movie I could. ^_^ It was good. I liked how they showed Anakin morphing into Darth Vader. One of the things I didn't like was Padme. She went from kickass in the first movie to wandering around her apartment brushing her hair. Oookay.

I just found that to be hilarious. I did some other combos, and it still ended up with two dads.

I got my birthday weekend off! Sucks for hours but at least I won't have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn.

And tomorrow I am off to see Kingdom of Heaven. It didn't get the best reviews, but it's supposedly really pretty to look at. Hopefully it's better than Troy. I hated that movie with a passion. All the pretty boys didn't make up for the suck that was that movie.

I'm doing okay. Work has scheduled me to open this weekend and next weekend. Open on Saturdays is 5am and 6am on Sundays. I don't like mornings. I'm thinking about how to get them to not schedule me to open. They never really asked if I would like to open, just scheduled me. I can either talk to the scheduler or I can subtly sabotage my job. Just be slow and slightly incompetent. Just enough to annoy the manager I'm opening with, but not enough to get me fired. I'm also looking for another job. It's slim pickings around here though. Economy sucks.

Here's a funny little quiz.

My mom came home and told me that she was giving me her card so I could get a DVD player. Early b-day present! woo hoo! I now have a Philips DVD player that plays everything.

My comp status is still up in the air. I will know more tomorrow before I go to work.
slrcosmos: (going mad)
My laptop of four years starting locking up this past weekend. I took it to a local repair shop Monday, thinking it was dust and if they could vacuum it out. The dude there did vacuum it but told me that 'zclient' was causing my computer to lock up. They charged me for labor, which was $50 but they didn't remove the zclient program. After getting my computer home yesterday, I figured out that my firewall program was the zlcient and removed it. The tech claimed they left my comp on overnight and ran like 10 virus scans and that it didn't lock up at all during that time. Well it froze twice yesterday, once before I removed ZoneAlarm and once afterwards. It didn't freeze for the rest of the night.

I turned it on this afternoon and after having it on for a few hours, it froze again. The only things I had open were Winamp, two Firefox windows and I was downloading a zip file at the time. I called the place up and the guy asked me 'what kind of programs are you running?' I don't know if he was joking, but that was a stupid thing to say. I use a wireless PC card at home and that was the only thing they didn't have when I dropped it off. I took it back to them today with the wireless card and we'll see if they figure out what the problem is. Luckily they gurantee their work for 5 days so I won't have to pay again.

The other thing that's dying is my DVD player, also 4 years old. It's been happening for a while. I'll be playing a brand new DVD with no scratches and randomly it will freeze and go to the next chapter. Luckily DVD players are a lot cheaper to replace. My b-day is coming up in two months so I guess that's what I'll be asking for.

Also my car is acting funky. As I was taking my comp to the store today, it stalled in the driveway after I put in reverse. It's basically not idling right. It's due for an oil change so it might be that. I have to talk to my dad about it.

Plus, my cat is still dying. 2005 is gonna be the year for dying things. Whee.
slrcosmos: (chibi Ayase)
I haven't posted in a while. All is going well. Work is work and my cat is still alive. I got my federal tax refund last week and splurged a little. And no, it wasn't all on DVDs.

I do have bad news: due to my suckiness I won't be going to grad school next year. I didn't do that well on the GRE to begin with and I was totally wrong about the due dates for applications. I thought they were late February/March, but they were back in December. I haven't told my dad yet. He's gonna flip. And just to spam everyone here's a little test I took. I'm proud of myself. ^_^

So I had my family party on the 25th of December. It was interesting. A couple of my aunts and uncles came back to stay the night at my house and they were wasted. It was funny and annoying at the same time.

My RotK: EE came too. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I'm kinda busy with the studying for the GRE and then I'll have to get grad school applications ready. Whee

I did add to my movie and manga collection. My local video store had a buy 2 previewed movie sale get 2 free. I got Last Samurai, Harry Potter 3, Elf and Big Fish for $20 total.

I got the most recent Pet Shop of Horrors (last one!) and Immortal Rain (cliffhangers suck)

My job is slowly going. I haven't been trained in any areas after I messed up with my cash drawer. (Short story: I accidentally gave a woman $10 too much in change and I didn't catch myself and she kept it so I had to pay it back.) We'll see how it goes. Money is money.

That is all. I hope to get a copy of Garden State for myself next week. And now I'm off to watch Alias. Toodles!
slrcosmos: (emoticon - spastic)
I went to my friends' last night to get gifts. I got a gift card to a bookstore and shelves. I need space. I can't put them up until my dad comes back. Stackage ahoy. I also got my gift from [livejournal.com profile] prinsage , which was anime!

So my parents and my sister are leaving early tonight for vacation so we exchanged gifts tonight. I got Stargate Season 7 and Buffy Season 7! Whee! I also got Spiderman 2. I gave my dad his gift card to Amazon.com and it was so cute. He ordered stuff later and he kept asking me for help. He's never shopped online. My mom got a huge lavendar basket from my dad and some clothes. My sis and I got her SCTV volume 1 and my sis got my dad the first Seinfeld box set.

The only thing that I didn't get was RotK: EE because my mom pre-ordered it from Amazon and it's taking it's sweet time to get here.

The bad news is that my mom took my cat to the vet today. The mass has gotten bigger and they think it's on her liver. They gave us low dosage morphine pills we're supposed to grind up in her food. The bad thing is that everytime she comes home from the vet, she feels worse than when she went. My mom asked for more anti-nausea medicine but they said no. So now I have to call them tomorrow to go get more. Because my cat threw up about 5 times tonight and the last time was green bile. Stupid vets.

That is all I have to share. I'm off to find food.
slrcosmos: (emoticon - WTF)
So my dad decided to improvise Christmas vacation this year. This means he doesn't know the destination or days yet. I asked him about 2 weeks ago if he knew the dates yet and he said he didn't. So today he came home and demanded to know if I had December 20 - January 3 off of work. I said no, because no one told me I needed to. He yelled that he had. I told him that I asked him a few weeks ago about it and he said that he doesn't remember that and I must have asked in my dreams. I told him you need 4 weeks notice to get time off. He is not a happy man. It's not my fault. I asked and since he decided to improvise, I'm not going. I'd rather go to New York since that's ahead of time, but I'm not gonna push it.

I can't believe he's so pissed when it's his fault. Sure I can put in for those days now but I doubt I'll be able to get them all off. People had Christmas week written in the request calender when I was hired in early November. Ugh. I hate family fights.

Prinsage, I don't know if I'll be making it out there in January. I can't really afford it on my own and I don't think my dad would be willing to use his frequent flyer miles on it after this.

Take the quiz: "WHAT RELIGION BESTS SUITS YOU?"

Atheist
You are Godless! You could care less about religion. As far as you're concerned, if you can't see, touch and kick something, it's not real to you. You're day-to-day activities consist of eating, working, sleeping and the occasional Internet or coffee shop debate. Lastly, if anyone chooses to preach at you otherwise, you will either leave or debate them until they finally shut up.

So my cat is doing okay. Sort of . She threw up bright green fluid yesterday and brown stuff today. I managed to get her to take a little of her anti-nausea pill.

Work is still frustrating. I spent one shift on the cash register learning and now I'm back with the fryers and grill. It's getting kinda annoying. I show up at work today and the manager is like, I didn't know you worked today. She basically didn't have a spot for me. I'm also getting sick of the schedules being put out really late. Apparently it was ready today but it needed to be double-checked before being posted. We'll see if I actually get trained on things. The way it's going, I won't be able to get my raise because I haven't been trained on more than 1.5 stations. Ugh.
slrcosmos: (emoticon - WTF)
So my cat threw up three times in 30 minutes today. My mom took her to the vet again. All we can do is treat the symptoms, make sure she stays hydrated and give anti-nausea pills. My mom told me in confidence that the vet predicted 2 weeks to a month left. This is too soon and too sudden. My cat was supposed to live forever. This is just a wonderful holiday season gift for my family. Fuck family vacation. I'm not going anywhere. I don't want to come home to a dead cat. The good thing is that she's acting normal and doesn't seem to be in pain. She's bascially dying from liver failure though and there's nothing you can do about it. I mean she is 14 but it still seems to soon. My sister is hardest hurt since the cat has basically been around her whole life, or at least since she was 5. My mom is gonna get one of those disposable cameras that come with a cd when you develop them so we can all have pictures of our cat.

To top off a really horrible day, I hit my own car on the way to class. It has a flat tire so I had to take my dad's and while backing up, I hit the mirror. Bunch of factors led to this:
-my state of mind
-my sister parked the car really far down the driveway and in a weird spot
-I didn't realize they were so close

It's the driver side mirror too. I didn't hurt my dad's car though. My dad was gonna take in tomorrow for the flat. I'm gonna try and offer him $50 for the mirror. I doubt he'll take it, but it was my fault. That's one to go in the notebook: my first car accident and it was against my own car.

I don't think the tears will ever stop coming..
slrcosmos: (emoticon - crying)
So my cat was acting funky all this past weekend so we took her to the vet today. Upon feeling her sides, the vet said she had found a mass in her abdomen. Being good pet parents, we paid for a X-ray. It took a while to come and me and my mom cried a little while waiting. It came back and the vet said the X-ray is unclear. My mom said she saw a mass but I didn't see anything. They did find out that my cat has fusing in the vertebrae of the spine. She is 13 which is fairly old for a cat. They gave her a steroid spot to help with that and we went ahead and had bloodwork done.

After dinner, the vet called us back with the results of the bloodwork. Liver enzymes are off the chart. This could be due to a tumor or feline lipidosis. Neither are good. Basically the next step is go in for an ultrasound. Me and my mom had a nice crying fit after that. The vet said to make sure our cat eats, which isn't so much of a problem. We've had her on a kitty diet but I went out tonight and got her soft food. She hasn't had any in about 2 years. She licked the plate clean. I want everyone to wish me luck. If it's possible, my mom wants to get surgery done to remove the mass if it is a tumor. That worries me 'cause she's old and going under is always a problem for older creatures. To those who haven't met my cat here she is doing her favorite thing:

slrcosmos: (Default)
So I've officially been working at Burger King for a week now. It's interesting. Much faster paced than I expected. There's already an older woman I don't like. I didn't tuck in my shirt Wednesday 'cause no one else does and she made me. She told me that the peole who don't tuck in it have reasons for that. Only one person is pregnant. Sheesh. Then when I was putting stuff away, crouching on the floor, I guess you could see down my pants. She came by and told me I should pull up my pants. Hello! I'm crouching down on the floor. It's gonna happen. I'm inside the kitchen.

The job is already causing strife between me and my sister. We share a car and since I had no life before this, it hasn't been an issue. She's essentially monopolized it so far. Now she's pissed that I work during the week and she doesn't have it to drive to school. I drive her to school in the morning and she gets rides home. Yet she's still really pissed. Plus she's pissed cause I have it for class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I don't know what to tell her. She was bitching at me before to get a job and now that I have one, she's pissed because I have to work there. I don't know what to tell her.

So far there has been only a few problems with work. For almost all of the shifts I've worked so far, I've had to work later than scheduled. I worked last Monday for 7 hours instead of 5 and didn't get a break or eat anything during that shift. That hasn't happened since then. I found out that on Wednesdays they have a truck come in and I'm the one who gets to put everything away. I was there until noon last week doing this and I am terribly out of shape. I got to the pop liquid, which weighs 5 gallons and could only move a few. Whee. I can carry stuff but it's hard for me to lift it, especially in the freezer when my hands freeze.

Now of course my sister is really pissed off. I don't know what I'm supposed to do about it. I told my manager I actually prefer to work weekends but she's scheduling me during the week. I did put I was available then. This car thing is gonna come to a screaming blow out soon. I'm sympathetic to her but it's not like she's stranded at school. She's just had the car basically all to herself for the past few months and she doesn't like change. Plus it's a status symbol that she gets to drive to school. She's been late so many times that she's gonna get her parking pass taken away though.
slrcosmos: (emoticon - WTF)
What the fuck is wrong with the United States? I know it's too early to call but it's not looking good for this country or the world.  I went out and voted today and I'm proud that my state will probably go to Kerry.

I'm getting so disenfranchised with the system. I've read many reports of people whose names were left off the roster or were challenged by Republicans waiting.

I've never liked the electoral college. I don't understand why the popular vote isn't good enough. The minority in the red and blue states essentially don't matter when it comes to choosing the President. That's how I feel. The electoral college made sense when communication between states wasn't instant. Today it's not difficult at all. Ugh

Don't even get me started on the gay marriage crap. Apparently my oh so lovely fellow state citizens here in MI thought the ban would be a good idea.

Canada oh Canada! My mom said that Greece has allowed civil unions (with full rights) between gay couples for a long time. That's surprising since that society is fairly rigid and uniform. In fact most of Europe is far ahead of us in that field. It'll be somewhat like slavery all over again: the US will the last the realize it's not such a good thing.

The only good thing to come out of today is the voter turnout. The final numbers aren't out yet but apparently it was fairly high. I didn't even get a sticker because they ran out at my polling place.

-slrcosmos *off to bed hoping this was a terrible, terrible nightmare*

The good:
So I had my orientation today at Burger King. It actually wasn't that bad. I filled out paperwork and watched a bunch of DVDs in a back room. So far the manager and assistant manager seem cool.

I only work this Saturday from 4pm to 8pm. The manager said it was because she liked to see how people work before she gives them lots of hours. It makes sense.

The bad:
people in my area are fucking pyromaniac rednecks. Yesterday was so bad burning wise. It looked like there was fog in the middle of the day but it was just people burning leaves. It totally pissed my mom off. I'm just glad that I got out of the area.

Today the next door neighbor decided to burn leaves. He had two piles going and one so close to our shared property line. All the smoke was coming toward our house. The bad thing is that you're not supposed to burn during the week at all. My mom printed out an ordinance and she wants my sister to put it in their mailbox.

The weird:
So I could not find the hand set for the kitchen phone yesterday. I looked everywhere for it. I was going out to the get the mail today and as I walked past the garbage, I heard one of the bags ring. The hand set was in a garbage bag set out on the curb. I had no idea how it ended up out there.

Also, someone stole our Kerry Edwards sign. The metal is still in the yard, but the actual sign is gone. Fucking pyromaniac rednecks
